The Elgin Public School District provides educational opportunities for a large number of students that live in and around the town. The Elgin Public School District spans 125.5 Square Miles, and covers the town of Medicine Park and Elgin, Oklahoma. There are 4 Schools in the Elgin Publics School System, Elgin Lower Elementary, Elgin Upper Elementary, Elgin Middle School, and Elgin High School. The extensive number of students in the district allows for a wide diversity of classes and extracurricular activities. Elgin has invested millions of dollars into building, renovating and updating their school facilities in anticipation of the large number of students expected to move here over the next decade. A motto of the Elgin Elementary School for the staff is the extra mile is the norm, not the exception. The staff takes seriously their commitment to educate the whole child while accepting no excuses for student performance. In 2010, Elgin Middle School was named a National Blue Ribbon School. An important part of the U.S. Department of Education, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes outstanding public and non-public schools. Parents should be proud to know that Elgin Middle School is 1 of 20 schools in the entire state of Oklahoma bestowed with this honor. In 2015, Elgin Elementary School was named a High Performing School. This means Elgin Elementary School is a learning community in which students continually strive or show significant growth in achievement. On August 23rd, a school bond was proposed which would have introduced nearly 50 million dollars for upgrades to Elgin Public School facilities. While the Yes Vote came in higher at 442 to 356, this proposal needed 60% to pass and it received 55%. Nathaniel Meraz, the Superintendent of Elgin Public Schools said the school district is growing by 65-75 students per year, which is a big reason he feels the city of Elgin needs the upgrades. The future is very bright for the parents, students, and staff of the Elgin Public School System.
